Can any of u suggest me what plants i can grow in the pots? we dont have enough land space but the terrace.
You can grow mint, corriander, tomato, green chilly, ladies finger, brinjal for your kitchen needs. Tulsi, Ponnankanni keerai also can be grown. If the terrace is exclusively yours then you can set up a panthal and grow climbing plants like snake gourd in bigger sacks…..
i guess balsam and small roses will go well in small pots.
I’d like to grow my veges at home.I don’t have any free soil in my rentd place.
Can i grow them in pots?Which ones r best to start with, without worrying too much ?
Where can i get good quality seeds?
Of course, you can grow them in pots!
I stay in the first floor (rented) and had some flowering plants and some herbs like karporavalli, thulasi, alovera, brahmi etc… and I used to keep one pot with no plants always with half filled soil in which i used to mix all the biodegradables from my kitchen and water it little everday.. once the earthworms begin to peep out, I take out soil from the sides of all the other pots and filled with this compost keeping those earthworms back in the pot.
Then began to notice that some plants were sprouting up from this pot, so i planted them to different pots. Tomatoes grow very fast.. put in those rotten tomatoes. when you dry red chillies to powder it, some seeds would fall on the mat or cloth put them into this soil.. you will get your chilli plants.. you will never have to buy chillies.. it gives chillies that you need all days through the year. just give a support of two sticks… you will get good pavakka.. though they were smaller than you get in the market.. dunno if its because it grew in a pot or the seed which sprouted was like that… i even got a poosanikka but of course it was also small in size..
Put those last tiny onions in the onion bag to this.. you can get green spring onions for your soup.. or wait for some more days and pull it off.. u will see onion tubers.. I always used to collect the green vengaya keerai.. but once when we came from Kerala, they all were dried and i thought of removing them to plant something new.. I got nearly 200 gm of small onions!!
manathakkali keerai seeds will also grow so fast.. even if i remove the plant… it sprouts up again in the same pot somehow!!
after u use the leaves of pudina.. leave the stem in a pot and water it… u will see small grean leaves growing the next day or two.
soak some vendayam overnight and strain the water keep it for half a day.. you will see it sprouting mix this with soil and water generously… you will get your vendayakeerai from it for sure..
Thanks for ur exhaustive reply Nisha!
