These symptoms are specific symptoms that come along with abdominal pain in children.

They are vomiting, inability to pass gas, constipation or diarrhea, loss of appetite, nausea or low-grade fever.

In children, they also experience fever and a sharp pain which is seen when pressure is placed on the lower right abdominal area & is quickly disappeared.

Appendicitis may have different symptoms in very young kids.

In very young kids, the symptoms usually seen are fever, vomiting, stomachaches. But diarrhea is not so common.

Other reasons for same symptoms:

The important symptom of appendicitis in children is abdominal pain, but the abdominal pain may be also due to other reasons like Mild food allergies, swallowing lots of air, gas, anxiety, constipation which are non-life threatening reasons.

The abdominal pain can be caused by other reasons like Gallstones, urinary tract infection, complications that twist, block or obstruct bowels(a hernia), stomach ulcer, Benign or cancerous tumours, inflammatory bowel diseases(Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis).

Diagnosis:

A computed tomography(CT) or ultrasound scan usually help in diagnosing appendicitis. Urine test & Blood test can also determine whether the appendicitis is present.

But no test can confirm appendicitis for 100%.

How common is it?

Appendicitis is more common in children under 5 years.
