Kinds of symptoms in children :
Symptoms of Rotavirus are a lack of appetite, fever(which comes down within 1st two or three days after onset), dehydration(including crying out with tears, pale skin, lethargy, sunken eyes & few wet diapers), irritability, upset stomach(including vomiting), watery diarrhea(usually up to 3 to 8 days),

The below list of conditions have been mentioned in sources as possible alternative diagnoses to think about during diagnostic process of Rotavirus. They are Pediatric Salmonella Infection, Giardiasis, Amebiasis, Emergent Treatment of Gastroenteritis, Pediatric Enteroviral Infections, Pediatric Dehydration & Pediatric Gastroenteritis in Emergency Medicine.
Diagnosis:
The common test for diagnosing Rotavirus is stool test.
A sample of the stool should be collected when the diarrhea is occurring.
The stool sample can be taken in a plastic wrap. It can be also collected by a special toilet tissue to collect the sample. For infants & children wearing diapers, the plastic wrap must be lined with the diaper, in a way that the stool & urine do not mix.
How common is it?
Highest infection rate happens generally in children between ages of six and 24 months as they generally have low immunity against different strains of the virus.
