My grandfather, an Oxford-educated freedom fighter, used to call summer, “a capricious season”. He often used to tell me how Indians and the British in the 40s and 50s would try and stay away from the heat. He called summer, capricious, because he felt that it changed the mindsets of people. They were aware of the rising temperatures and often tried to cool themselves with artificial coolants like sodas, ice creams and beer.
I’ve grown up in a home where there were no processed food or store-bought items in the kitchen or fridge. When I had Pepsi for the first time, I was 15. I’ll admit that I didn’t really like it. I had ice cream for the first time when I was 10. The second time I had ice cream, I was 18. My parents and grandparents found that consuming the right kind of fruits and vegetables was more than enough to keep our body and skin comfortable throughout the season.
Here are 25 fruits and vegetables you should eat this summer to keep your body and skin cool and hydrated.
