Buttermilk is common accompaniment in most of the Indian diets. Buttermilk is lower in fat than regular milk, because the fat has been removed to make butter. It is also high in potassium, vitamin B12, calcium, and riboflavin as well as a good source of phosphorus. When the sun beats down on your head, or your acidity levels rise to alarming levels, treat yourself to a glass of cool, comforting buttermilk. I grew up drinking spiced and herbed buttermilk that was churned from fresh yogurt, and am still addicted to it.
