FIDE World Chess Championship 2013 in Chennai

               As Chennai awaits with bated breath India’s first ever World Chess Championship starting this Thursday.  As the final countdown to the World Chess Championship clash begins, the chess fraternity is abuzz with speculation on who is working with whom as seconds.  

             

               With the World Championship just a few days away, it remains to be seen how far the conduct of the highly-billed 12-game affair between local boy & current champion Viswanathan Anand and Norwegian world number 1 Magnus Carslen will go to alleviate the state of chess in the country, to determine the 2013 World Chess Champion. It will be held under the auspices of FIDE, the World Chess Federation, from 9 to 28 November 2013 in Chennai, India.

                 The long awaited World Championship 2013 match between the defending champion ,Viswanathan Anand and the challenger Magnus Carlsen is getting closer.

 

             



                   The opening ceremony of the Anand – Carlsen match is Thursday, November 7th (WCC 2013 schedule here).
Saturday November 9th the clock will start running and the chess fans will be on the edge of their seats following what is already considered a milestone in the history of the sport.

 

                   The city of Chennai will be the battlefield for the FIDE World Chess Championship match. It was confirmed as the venue for the match back in May. The capital of Tamil Nadu is eagerly waiting for this chance to prove that they can provide the conditions for an event of this caliber. 

 

 

Carlsen and Anand 2013 Information:

 

Magnus Carlsen (Norway) won the Candidates Tournament 2013, played in London in the beginning of the year, after the thrilling finish to become the official challenger of reigning World Champion Viswanathan Anand. Of age only 22, Carlsen is currently the number one FIDE rated player with 2862 ELO (Sept 2013).

 

 

Viswanathan Anand (India) retained the title of the World Champion after defeating the challenger Boris Gelfand in the FIDE World Chess Championship Match 2012 in Moscow, Russia. There he defends the title he holds from Mexico 2007, Bonn 2008, and Sofia 2010. Anand was also champion in 2000 after the knock-out tournament and he won the FIDE World Rapid Championship in 2003.
