This Bengaluru student will have a planet named after her.

This is Sahithi Pingali.

Yesterday, she was just a student. But, from this day forth, she will become a legend. A class 12 student of Bengaluru’s Inventure Academy, Ms. Pingali was researching the types of pollutants that have been affected the lakes of Bengaluru. She presented her research paper at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair, where she competed against 2000 students, and emerged victorious. Ms. Pingali’s paper ‘An Innovative Crowdsourcing Approach to Monitoring Freshwater Bodies’ was recognised under the competition’s Sustainability Solutions category.

And now, she will have a planet named after her, and join a small group of geniuses who share the same privilege.

According to Ms. Pingali, her paper is based on personal experiences after having developed an integrated mobile phone app and lake monitoring kit that obtains data through crowdsourcing. She is currently pursuing an internship at the University of Michigan, where she’s working with Ph.D. students and professors in the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department.

We send across our best wishes to Sahithi and her proud mom.
