My Diwali Experience

hobbies
Wow… Nice to read so many memories of Diwali…   It is encouraging me to pen down my own experiences. So here it goes…

Every year diwali day would start with our mom waking us up to have "ganga bath". (We lazy girls wud be sleeping since we can sleep for long hours only on holidays). So, after our bath, we would happily wear our new clothes  and run down for our first round of bursting crackers. Then, go home and enjoy delicious breakfast  with sweets and savouries that mom prepares. Hmmm,, and the diwali special "Adirasam" which i ususally help mom in preparing. (My mouth is already watering…)

Since we lived in appartments we would disrtibute sweets to our neighbours. During the evening, we used to light lamps and decorate them around the house. (We sisters used to fight as to who would do it and then finally we would share it) Everyone in the appartments would gather down and burst the crackers together. It would be great fun to have everyone together and exchange crackers and burst. And even share jokes and other things about previous diwali’s etc…

Last year was my first Diwali at my in-laws place and I was looking forward to it with a mixture of emotions. And then came the day…   hmmm,,, eppadi solradhu… Total flop…  My MIL had’nt prepared even one sweet. No lamps lit.  Worst of all, they din’t even wear the new clothes they had purchased. Enakku totally mood-off after seeing all this…    Was just waiting to burst the crackers that they had purchased and see how my daughter would react to them… But unfortunately my daughter was fast asleep when we were bursting crackers (which actually finished in 5 minutes)…

This year too my hubby has booked tickets to my in-laws place.  Just crossing my fingers and hoping to have a better Diwali than my last one…

My diwali – Experience

toddlers

Celebrations
My childhood Experience as I was in 2nd std
The great great Diwali is a ‘Festival of Lights’, which falls during the month of Oct end or Nov beginning?
For most them it is excitement for new dresses, rich sweets, crackers, new cine songs and get together with family members.
Usually the preparation for diwali begins a day before .The home was washed and decorated with rice kolam filled with beautiful colors.
As I was brought up by my grandma and father.
She wakes me at 4.00am , but I & my younger sister sleep as that day was holiday ,en she sprinkle some water then also we ‘ll not wake, then finally she ‘ll pour a glass of water on our face finally we’ll wake with screaming & grandma applies sesema oil on the heads of mine and sister . Laxmi ganesh pooja was performed & in that we‘ll places the crackers and new dresses in a plate after smearing a litte kumkum and sandalwood paste in the corners of dresses. After that we have worn the new dresses. On Diwali we’ll go to the temple to celebrate

Before diwali i,my friends and my younger sister ‘ll, discuss  about the new varieties of crackers, which  crackers produce the biggest sound, beautiful visual effects? How to astonish the casual passers and 2 wheelers crossing the road by placing bombs and crackers? What about the lip smacking sweets in the shops? We hated watching television except for few new  movies songs  movies released on Diwali.
And we will be proud to see more and more papers of cracker outside the gate and we will compare it with other houses (cracker kuppai).and we’ll tell others that we have burst lot of crackers. Next day after diwali the sweeper find it difficult to clean the premises with lots of garbage’s
Grandma prepared, sweet and rich food to celebrate the festival and I & my sister assisted in preparation of murukku, athirasam , rave laddu , Gulab jamun, Halwas and Kaju cakes I &my younger sister are eager to taste all those dishes which is kept on the greatest height on the shelf where we can’t reach the height of shelf to taste those dishes. (This are all wonderful memories of mine if I think now also I will laugh enjoying those thoughts.)

Next session is break fast and story telling

Breakfast consist of idle , vada, dosa and puri and we enjoy it very much. Today also I remember that during breakfast I have asked her (grandma)why we are celebrating diwali she told me that the victory of Good over Evil is the reason for this celebration. She also told that the festival is to mark the return of Rama to Ayodhya after his defeat of Ravana. (She’ll tell   me very very good story- those days are unforgettable thoughts and memories of mine.Through this contest i can recollect all stories told by my grandma ,thank for the administrator)

3rd session is eating of sweets and bursting crackers

Every time we burst a cracker we would take a piece of sweet. There are always bijili crackers to fill the time gap from morning to evening. We used to throw it from our hands .We guys ‘ll show every one  in the street that we are dare girls ,all the kids of below our age would see with astonishment  and there ‘ll be always  around15 to 18 kids cheering us. Rocket Bomb, Lakshmi, ,1000 valls , 100 valls , 200 vals ,Double sound, are some of the crackers with noisy explosion.
As the  sun sets we decorate homes with diyas and decorative bulb lamps are lighted. we would take out all those fancy firework items like flower pots, Vishnu chakkars, wire, pencil etc. – The entire street would be filled with lights of the fireworks. Rockets will be flying like anything.when we were bursting fancy works items , my younger sister had burnt all the susuruvathi & she had kept it  in a box without knowing that i took the hot hot  susuruvathi in my hand & my  right got burnt and had lots of heat boil, for about 1 week i was unable to do any work i took off from school too.then at about 8 pm most of the crackers would have been finished. If something remained it would be burst during karthika deepam .

When   I  was in class 10th I decided not to burn crackers

In presence of my grandma the deepavali was very memorable and enjoyable till the age of 13yrs. after she passed no one was there to prepare the sweet dishes .for us every year the diwali has become very boring.
As my dad is very moody and strict we don’t enjoy much with him
But he use to buy and give us huge number of crackers. But without any interest we both use to burst the cracker.

I even remember that when I was in 10th class I decided not to burn the cracker, this is  according to my thought that I  considers that we scare the birds ,little animals , little kids and old age person and we create unnecessary noise  & air pollution for the sake of our happiness we are hurting them. because of  this many little children are engaged in cracker factories where they are  lossing  their life  , I thought  that I ‘m burning  thousand of rupees to ashes in the name of ceremonies and do we have to pay such a heavy cost to buy a smile for ourselves then i  adviced my friend and relative to enjoy Diwali by lighting lamps, offering prayers and by making this world a better place for every one & for the entire universe.

During Thalai Deepavali,

After few years I have celebrated diwali in my in – law’s homes by taking blessings from the elders, gifts of clothes & then visited to the temple. Then my father, sisters came down to join in the celebration to burst the first fancyfire works of the day. (Thought I  wasn’t interested to burst the crackers).

After the birth of my son chella kutty:
I celebrated diwali very happily, by bursting few fancy fire works for the sake of my son, to see the joyness in his face. Now he is 2.1/2 years old. He is very active, naughty, but very scared about the sound of cracker.
When on the road if any crackers are burst, he ’ll start crying hide himself under the table, cot or behind me and during his deep sleep , he’ll cry thinking of the worst noise.
I don’t this year how it going to be whether   scared diwali for my kid or happy diwali. I hope for the best

These are the most memorable memories of my diwali

Enjoy the diwali in safe
keep & make the environment green & neat.
Bye bye
