A two-wheeler rider was crushed to death and three others were injured after they were hit by a Metropolitan Transport Corporation (MTC) bus at the busy Mylapore area in the city on oct 4, 2012. Police said the deceased was identified as Thulasi, hailing from Vadapalani in the city. He was travelling with his daughter Priya in the pillion when the tragedy struck.
Thulasi was caught under the wheels and was crushed to death right in front of the eyes of his daughter and public.
His body was taken to Government Royapettah Hospital for an autopsy.
Priya and two other injured, who were also travelling in a two-wheeler, were admitted to Government General Hospital for treatment.
Apart from Priya, the two injured were identified as Sathish and Ambrose.
The bus driver was arrested and being questioned by the Mylapore Traffic Police. While brake failure was said to be the reason for the mishap, angry locals, who staged a road roko, blamed rash driving for the mishap. They said the driver was driving the bus at a high speed on the narrow Kutchery Road, where several schools were situated. Locals said had the accident occured during the school hours between 0800 hrs and 0900 hrs, the casualties would have been on the higher side.
