i post this blog to share some inervative or traditional recipes for the comming vinayaka chaturthi 2014 and some decreation ideas for pillayar statue and so on.
First i start..
usually we prepare Mothagam or kozhukattai recipes and pattani sundal recipes for Vinayaka chaturthi.
Pattani Sundal Recipe for Vinayaka chaturthi 2014
Ingredients of Pattani Sundal Recipe for Vinayaka chaturthi 2014
1/2 kg dried green peas
1 1/2 tsp. turmeric powder
1/2 coconut (grated)
Salt to taste
1 tsp. mustard seeds
3 red chillies (broken)
1/2 tsp. asafoetida powder
6 green chillies (chopped)
3 sprigs of curry leaves (chopped)
3 tbsp. of oil
Method of preparing Pattani Sundal Recipe for Vinayaka chaturthi 2012
Clean, wash and soak green-peas overnight.
Pressure cook along with turmeric powder till very soft.
Heat oil and add mustard seeds, red chillies and asafoetida powder.
When brown, add green chillies and curry leaves.
Fry for a minute and add boiled green peas and salt. Cook on a low flame till dry.
Add grated coconut.
Before serving, add the juice of 2 lemons and mix well
Mothagam or kozhukattai recipes for Vinayaka chaturthi 2014
Ingredients of Mothagam or kozhukattai recipes for Vinayaka chaturthi 2014
Coconut – 1/2 cup
Powdered Jaggery – 1/4 cup
Cardomom powder – a pinch
Rice flour / Idiyappam flour – 1 cup
Salt – 1/2 tsp
Water – as required to form a dough
Method of preparing Mothagam or kozhukattai recipes for Vinayaka chaturthi 2014
Dry roast coconut in a tawa till the moisture is absorbed fully
Take powdered jaggerry, add water till immersing level and mix well in a small bowl.
Filter it in a strainer to remove the impurities and add it to the roasted coconut.
Heat it up till jaggery gets coated well with the coconut.
Then Add cardamom powder.
After 3-4 mins the mixture will start getting thick to be rolled into a ball.
At this stage switch off and let it cool and make small balls and keep aside.
sieve the rice flour 2-3 times, keep aside. Boil water, Take rice flour in a wide bowl.
Add the boiling water little by little and mix it.
Mix it till it gathers to a smooth dough.
Allow it to cool for 2-3 mins then knead once with your hands to make a smooth dough but it will be slightly sticky.Keep aside.
Grease ur hands with oil.
Make lemon sized small balls with the prepared dough and flatten them as thin as possible like a small cup
Now keep the coconut pooranum stuffed ball and keep in middle of the cup.
Pull around the edges and bring it to center over the top of the filling.
Bring it together to form the modak shape.
Then arrange it in a idly plate and steam it for 10-15mins.
After 10-12 mins check if the mothagam or kozhukottais is ready.
For decorating Pillayar statue, we just bought umbrella and small flowers.
